Glossary
Terms that may be relevant in order to understand Drive API documentation
- CCS (Combined Charging System, a plug type): A widely used fast-charging standard for electric vehicles (EVs). It combines AC and DC charging in one connector, allowing for faster charging times, especially on DC fast chargers.
- CDR (Charge Detail Record): A log detailing a completed charging session, including start and end times, energy consumed, cost, and session ID, used for auditing and billing.
- Charging Station: A charging station (or charger) is a physical device can have one or more charging points (connectors).
- Charge Point: A charge point (or connector) is where a user can charge either using their own cable or a cable attached to the charging station.
- Charging Network: Collection of interconnected charge points that users can access under a common agreement. Networks may span various operators and countries, facilitating wide EV access. Plugsurfing's network is one of the largest in Europe.
- Charge Point Operator (CPO): The entity responsible for owning, operating, and maintaining EV charging stations. CPOs ensure that charge points are functional, updated, and accessible for EMPs and EV drivers, playing a critical role in network reliability and expansion.
- Drive API: Interface enabling integration with Plugsurfing for managing EV charging services, including station data, session handling, and billing.
- eMobility Provider (EMP): Provider managing user accounts, billing, and payments for EV charging sessions. EMPs facilitate a seamless charging experience for EV users.
- EVSE (Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment): Hardware and equipment used to deliver electricity from an external source (like the grid) to an electric vehicle. This includes the connectors, cables, and electronics necessary for safely charging an EV.
- External Clearing: A payment process where a partner handles user payments directly, with Plugsurfing invoicing the partner at agreed-upon B2B rates. This method allows flexibility in payment management.
- Roaming: Feature that allows users to access and pay for charging stations across different networks, enabling broader accessibility and convenience.
- Sessions: Individual charging events, tracked from the initiation of charging to its conclusion, used for monitoring and billing purposes.
- Tariff Models: Pricing structures for charging sessions, which can vary by factors such as charging speed, session duration, or energy consumed. Tariffs are integral for user billing and transparency.
- Type 2 (a plug type): The standard connector for AC charging in Europe, used for charging at home and at public charge points. It is common for slow to moderate charging speeds and is compatible with most EVs in Europe.
